I Wish I Knew...I only wish that before my surgery I had someone other than a doctor or a parent - in other words not an adult - talk to me about what's going to happen, the consequences & the results, someone to connect with me. In my opinion the biggest feeling abuot the surgery is the apprehension. Not knowing exactly what is going to happen before the surgery, during the surgery, and after is a little bit scary. Okay, so maybe you don't want to know exactly what's happening during the surgery and maybe you don't need to know. Afterall, you are asleep. Prepping for the surgery is pretty simple too. However, after I wake up...no one told me I couldn't eat til the day after I woke up. Trust me; they say you can't eat past midnight. Eat a really really super duper good dinner the night before, then right before midnight, eat like crazy. And for all you girls (and guys, too, if it's something you're worrying about) don't worry a bitabout your weight. During my stay at the hospital I ate all these ice cream and popsicles and all these delicious foods, and I thought, 'Oh gawsh I'm gonna get fat.' Not true. I actually lost ten pounds. So don't worry about it; just concentrate on eating healthy cause it's really important; whether or not you will or have had the surgery. And trust me; diet will the be the last thing on your mind. For instance, some other things to think about: Who are/aren't you going to tell? How much schoolwork are you missing? How long is it going to take to catch up? And what about your hair? (don't worry they only shave off an itsy bisty part; this was actually my biggest concern.) If you're a guy, I imagine it must be pretty hard to cover it up, but then again your hair doesn't need to regrow very long so you're lucky. For you girls, part your hair on the side that is farthest from the surgery. If you have a middle part, I guess it's okay unless you get an indirect surgery on the top of your head. If you really don't like it, get those bandana things and tie it around your head :) It really isn't needed, though. Okay maybe sometimes it is.. Hope you find it helpful! |
